You Meant Something

One of the best feelings in the world is knowing your presence and absence both mean something to someone.

It's when you know you are valued.

Appreciation

We enjoy warmth because we have been cold. We appreciate light because we have been in darkness. By the same token, we can experience joy because we have known sadness.

You can truly appreciate one thing if you think of the other. While this does not necessarily mean that you have to always think of the opposite whenever you look for the real reasons why you should admire it, the case is true and can only be realized on the opposite view.

I have jokingly told my peers about a very casual and ordinary scenario where one can ponder how human tend to put himself in ironic situations. It's like buying a loaf of soft white bread, getting two slices, put some butter or whatever spread, and putting them in the oven toaster only to dip them in milk later on. You love the softness of the bread. But for some reasons, you like to eat it toasted (crusty). Yet you might not like it too much browned that you want to dip it in coffee or hot milk or chocolate which softens its texture.

But it's not just of these ironic situations we sometimes find ourselves heedlessly that we can realize and appreciate many things in opposite directions. It is just somehow amazing that we can learn to appreciate it because we have not been or we have not yet tried taking it the other way around.

Since birth, we have learned how to laugh in times of merriment, and cry in times of fear or pain. But later on as we reached the adulthood and been through a lot of times then we learned that there's a fine line between laughter that comes from genuine happiness and the laughter that is just strained or masking another emotion. Yes, we love to have electricity even in the province because we know what it feels when there's black-out. And oh how we love the stars in the dark sky. And the warmth of the sun after last night's rain.

There are a lot of times we only come to realize these once gone. But sometimes, there are things gone that will not happen to come again. Will we wait for those times?

Everyday is a gift. And everything that comes our way has something for a purpose. Let's not fail to appreciate it.
